Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, Modena (Chapel Of St. John the Baptist)

Modena does churches real well. They are all over the place, and are very old.

On my first trip out there, I passed by this one without really noticing. 2nd trip there, it's age was pointed out to me - there is documentation to suggest that a church has been there since 1190, when it was known as San Michele (St. Michael I guess).

Interestingly, the current structure was reconstructed from 1723 to 1732, and is pretty much the same as its been since.







I read elsewhere (unconfirmed) that the church was also the last resting place for prisoners on their way to execution.
